Warner Bros. began their 90 minute Hall-H presentation by rolling out a 3 minute sizzle reel for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. While a teaser was released back in March, this represents the first full-length trailer released for the movie which is currently set for a November release. The trailer offers a lot more of Grindelwald and Dumbledore and paints a grim picture overall after the dark wizard’s prison breakout. Check out the trailer below.
The Crimes of Grindelwald will see Grindelwald escape prison after his capture by the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA). In a short while, Grindelwald amasses his substantial following to wreak havoc upon the muggles, championing the cause of wizard dominance. Thwarting his efforts are Albus Dumbledore who is shown teaching Defense of the Dark Arts at Hogwarts and Newt Scamander, one of his (former?) students. Dumbledore makes it clear yet again that Newt is the one who’ll need to go after Dumbledore and a shot or two offers a hint as to why.
In one of the sequences in the trailer, Dumbledore can be seen staring at a mirror with Grindelwald’s reflection showing up. This is most likely the Mirror of Erised which showcases one’s deepest desires. In the Harry Potter lore, J. K. Rowling planted seeds of Dumbledore having an affection for Grindelwald which could kind of make him go weak when the time comes to face a formidable foe. There are lots of details worth pouring over in the trailer so it’s going to take more than one re-watch to catch all the details.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is be directed by David Yates from a script by writer J. K. Rowling. The movie is set for release on November 16, 2019.
