King Ghidorah looks menacing, majestic and glorious in this brand new still from Godzilla: King of the Monsters. USA Today dropped the still as part of their must see 2019 movies which also included one for Captain Marvel. In the still below, Ghidorah looks threatening as a ship approaches the three-headed monster. The approaching ship’s UFO-like design makes me believe its a Monarch ship, which lines up with the resources the mysterious organization has invested in to tackle the thread of Rodan, Mothra and Ghirodah. Check out the 4K still below (give it some time to load).
Director Michael Dougherty also weighed in on his passion in Toho’s gigantic creature, revealing his obsession as a 4-year old with his Godzilla toy. He also affirms his approach towards tackining them within the movie’s universe by treating them as Gods which once co-existed alongside humans. This echoes his recent interviews, where he explains his approach towards the movie’s serious themes.
They’re not just big dumb animals. They were worshipped back in the day. There’s a fantastical element that comes into that. It’s not just pure science fiction.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters releases in theaters on May 31, 2019. Check out last month’s second trailer and share your excitement about the above still and Dougherty’s approach to the movie in the comments below.
