The second trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters is finally out and true to the hype built at CCXP 2018, it showcases a battle of epic proportions. The first appearance of King Ghidorah sees the three-headed antagonist fight brutally with Godzilla as the two lay city blocks to waste. Mothra and Rodan also pose threats to the city’s new “pet” while the supporting human characters all look on in awe and amazement as their hero tries to protect them from the threat of the three monsters.
Like the first Comic Con trailer, this one has extremely bleak undertones to it. Godzilla: King of the Monsters is being marketed as a disaster movie with larger than life Kaiju battles. Godzilla himself appears a lot more agile than his previous appearances and the three-headed Ghidorah looks like it’ll smack Godzilla to the ground. There are plenty of money shots scattered through the trailer with the final shot of Ghidorah and Godzilla charging towards each other supposedly the highpoint.
With King of the Monsters, the third movie in Legendary’s Godzilla-Kong Monsterverse, the filmmakers are clearly selling the idea of larger-than-life visual effects and CGI-aided battles. Only CGI is used to depict monsters and creatures that until now have only been shown in old movies by rubber suits and / or poor quality effects. Kaiju fans are naturally excited at the possibility of seeing their beloved creatures with such intricate designs and animations and the excitement is showing across Twitter feeds and Reddit pages.
