The Matrix 4 Trailer Arriving Next Week At Cinemacon?

Will The Matrix 4 trailer be screened at Cinemacon? And could it then release online next week? At least that’s the buzz around and what fans are desperately hoping to happen. Warner Bros. confirmed their presence at Cinemacon a while back. The event is slated for August 24 and we now know the studio will definitely be screening some important stuff.

A memo sent out by Warner Bros. to Cinemacon attendees is requesting them to keep all audio-video devices turned off. It’s pretty standard practice for an event like this but I’d be surprised if that doesn’t have anything to do with some Matrix stuff screening. At minimum, we should have a title reveal and a lot of fans are banking on it being The Matrix Resurrections, a title that was floated as long as 20 years ago when rumors of a fourth Matrix movie still did the rounds.

Even Erik Davis of Fandango is optimistic about the title reveal.

The sneak peek at Cinemacon could be something as grand as a full-length trailer, something milder such as a minute long teaser, or even a brief snippet or shot squeezed in a sizzle reel promoting the studio’s upcoming release slate. Remember the Kong punching Godzilla shot that leaked last year? Something of that sort but with Keanu Reeves’ Neo maybe.

The Matrix 4 is currently planned for a December 2021 release date. And if Warner Bros. intends to hit that date, some marketing would need to start now. I’d say it would be ideal for the studio to release a minute-long teaser in a similar vein as the combined teaser trailer that dropped for The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions in 2002, followed by a full-length trailer around October that could then be attached to the screenings of Dune. If they intend to stick with the date that is.

It may not be as hyped as some of the other releases but there remains tremendous excitement around The Matrix 4. Director Lana Wachowski has filmed most of the action without any second units. The cast seems to be quite enthusiastic about the storyline as well, including Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who recently spoke about it.

It sounds crazy to believe that The Matrix sequels were so hyped they got a teaser a full year before their official release. And boy it was bonkers. Here’s the teaser that gave us goosebumps back then.

The Matrix 4 will feature returning cast members Keanu Reeves as Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian and Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson. They’ll be joined by an ensemble of new cast members including Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onmuwere, Ellen Hollman, Christina Ricci and Priyanka Chopra among others.
