Ant-Man and the Wasp had its premiere last week which simultaneously saw the embargo on critic reviews being lifted. First reactions for the movie were overwhelmingly positive and now critic reviews have started pouring in abundance as well. The general consensus is that Ant-Man and the Wasp is a fun, wacky and lighthearted ride that comes as much needed respite after the heavy consequences of this summer’s Avengers: Infinity War. Evangeline Lily steals the show as the Wasp while the movie itself will have some nice tie-ins to Infinity War and next year’s Avengers 4 as promised.
Take a look at some of the first reactions below. These always get you psyched up:
Ant-Man and The Wasp is Marvel's best sequel since The Winter Solider. @EvangelineLilly is one of my new favorite super heroes. @MrPeytonReed knocked it out of the park!! Tremendous movie!

In a surprise to no one @MrPeytonReed's #AntManAndTheWasp is a ton of fun and had the crowd laughing beginning to end. @MarvelStudios has yet another winner. @Kevfeige makes it look so easy when we all know what he's done is next to impossible. pic.twitter.com/coixY7LG40

What a year for Marvel! Absolutely loved #AntManAndTheWasp. Stellar ensemble and the humor is spot on. (Laughed myself to tears during one sequence!) The tech is used to great effect yet again. Unique, highly entertaining ride I can’t wait to go on again.

#AntManAndTheWasp hits everything it needs to. They nailed the comedy and characters were written perfectly. Nice change of pace from Infinity War. Really enjoyed it.

Now that we have those out of the way, let’s see what professional critics have to say:
This latest entry in the unstoppable Marvel Studios takeover of the world is probably the most amusing film the company has made since the Kevin Feige reign began a decade ago.
– The Hollywood Reporter
Ant-Man and the Wasp has a pleasingly breakneck, now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t surreal glee. It’s a cunningly swift and delightful comedy of scale.
– Variety
Rudd is such a friendly, likable presence; he sets this movie’s pace, while Lilly’s fiercely committed Hope/Wasp acts as the perfect counterweight. Rudd’s scenes with Lilly and with Fortson make the movie matter in human terms.
– Chicago Tribune
The thrill of the film is watching Ant-Man and the Wasp team up and raise hell together.
– Rolling Stone
Ant-Man and the Wasp is a crowd-pleaser of a film, and a reminder that great characters and fun scripts are what make enjoyable comic book movies—not just a huge shared universe.
– Gizmodo
Ant-Man and The Wasp is a creative and self-contained adventure with Lilly’s new heroine stealing the stage. As she said in the post-credits scene of the original Ant-Man film, “It’s about damn time.”
– Comic Book
The movie is undoubtedly enjoying great positive reception. At Rotten Tomatoes, it currently has an 89% Certified Fresh score from 90 critics with an average rating of 6.8 out of 10 with a unanimous emphasis on how entertaining and fun the movie really is. With that many reviews out already, it’s safe to say the movie is another welcome addition in Marvel Studios’ long unbeaten streak of hits thus far.
Those reviews merely scratch the surface though. Head on over to Rotten Tomatoes and other places to check out more or even read the full reviews. Although I must advise against doing so since those reactions and reviews might contain spoilers for the movie itself. We’ll be posting our review of the movie some time next week so check back in for the same as well.
In the meanwhile, revisit our coverage of Ant-Man and the Wasp as it arrives this week on July 6. And while you’re at it, consider reading our Road To Infinity War series if you’re in the mood for some heavy duty prep-work.
