Anthony Mackie reveals Avengers: Infinity War had 40 superheroes on set in one scene

Arizona recently hosted its own convention ACE Comic Con. Marvel’s stars graced the event as well and gave some interesting nuggets of info about the massively anticipated Avengers: Infinity War. Arguably the most crucial of these came from Anthony Mackie who revealed that as many as 40 superheroes were present in a particular scene in the movie. Moreover, his description clearly explains what scene he’s talking about as well as what it means for the status quo of Infinity War.

Describing one of his most memorable moments from the set of Infinity War, Mackie revealed:

There was one day we were on set and were doing this scene that’s in the trailer where we’re all running to battle. You know, all of us are on set and it’s like forty superheroes.

It’s clear the scene Mackie is referring to is the final shot in the trailer before the title shows up. That scene shows Captain America, Bucky Barnes, Falcon, War Machine, The Hulk and Black Panther among others running towards what is possibly the final battle for the Soul Stone in Wakanda. Even so, that’s a lot of superheroes for one scene, almost the entire roster of the movie. The only way that figure seems possible if it literally includes everyone we know who is confirmed in the movie from Black Panther to War Machine and even Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. As it turns out, that could very well be the case. Reflecting upon the bonding between the cast members on the set that day, Mackie recalled:

I look to my right and I see Tom Holland and Dave Batista. I see them in the corner and Tom is literally the size of Dave’s leg. I don’t know what they’re talking about but Batista jumps up and does a kick-punch move and I was like ‘Yo, you’re about to kill him!’

Mackie’s comments about Tom Holland and Dave Batista being on the set for the climactic battle are significant because for most of the footage we’ve seen so far, the Avengers have been shown operating largely in two different units. Spider-Man, the Guardians, Iron Man and Doctor Strange are together whereas Captain America, The Winter Soldier, Black Widow and Black Panther along with Falcon are separate. The above comments indicate all these heroes could very well coalesce into one giant showdown pitting everyone against the Mad Titan Thanos himself strengthened by his Black Order. Steve Rogers and Tony Stark are definitely going to join forces to fight on the same side, whether temporarily or permanently.

Finally, Captain America himself chipped in with his comments on shooting that scene stating:

That day was really fun, I know the day you’re talking about. That day was [snickers]…you’ll see. It was a great day with a lot of great people.
