Marvel Studios’ Black Widow showed off some footage at Disney’s D23 Panel today that expanded upon the SDCC footage shown last month. While Comic Con had shown a sequence set in the oft referenced Budapest, D23 footage carried on with Florence Pugh’s and Scarlett Johansson’s characters Yelena and Natasha fighting intensely, before it’s revealed that this is Yelena’s way of welcoming Natasha back. She refers to Romanoff as her sister, which at this point could be metaphorical or literal.
It’s also interesting to see Yelena call out Natasha for posing at the end of a fight. Always the one to end it in style, Black Widow has struck an epic pose multiple times during her fight sequences across MCU movies, whether it was her debut skirmish in the hallway sequence in Iron Man 2 or fights in The Avengers where one of her poses was cut out from the film. Johansson’s Romanoff has always been a poser and it’s fabulous of writer Jac Schaeffer and director Cate Shortland tapping into something that’s been there all along, but not necessarily referenced as clearly.
Black Widow hits theaters on May 1, 2020.
