The promotion blitzkrieg for Captain Marvel is on in full swing. After releasing the first look, Entertainment Weekly has outed 10 stills from the movie. These images give us our very first look at what Captain Marvel is going to look like while also giving us our very first reveals about Skrulls, Jude Law’s character and a digitally de-aged Nick Fury.
While not much is known about his character, Jude Law explains his role in acting as a mentor towards Carol Danvers:
These extraordinary powers she has, he sees them as something of a blessing and something that she has to learn how to control. That’s a motif throughout the piece, the element of learning to control one’s emotions and to use your powers wisely.
We also get a look at a digitally de-aged Nick Fury who is described as being a low-level S.H.I.E.L.D. operative, far from the director status he’s known for pretty much the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fury will be seen with both his eyes intact and with a mindset before he met any of the superheroes he regularly interacted with. Remember, this is a world where the only known superhero is Steve Rogers.
One of the most interesting reveals involves Ben Mendelsohn’s character Talos, the leader of the Skrull army. We see him not only in his regular Skrull avatar, but also in his disguised form as a top-ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. employee. As a human, Talos is indistinguishable from other humans which is bound to play into a major reveal either in Captain Marvel or Avengers 4. #WhoistheSkrull anyone?
