John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is due for release in a week. Even as the embargo for reviews lifts next week, early buzz around the movie is incredibly positive thanks to star Keanu Reeves’ image as well as the fact that the first two movies have been genuinely good surprises. A short clip has now been released for Parabellum that shows man-on-the-run Wick conversing with the Director of the High Table who looks like Wick’s final hope in the situation he’s been setup in. As she explains however, the odds against Wick are insurmountable at best.

One of the great things about John Wick is that despite being an action-franchise, it’s got loads of backstory scattered around its world that isn’t really explained in your face, but hinted at. Watching the movies, you immediately feel the presence of a much larger, more fleshed out world that you’d love to explore and learn more about. There are rumblings of this trait in this particular, brief clip, with the Director addressing John Wick as “Jardani”, hinting at a long-running prior relationship between the two. It could have been laid out in the scenes before or in true John Wick style, left for the audience to explore.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum releases in theaters on May 17, 2019, with a running time of 131 minutes. It stars Keanu Reeves as the titular assassin John Wick while also featuring the likes of Lawrence Fishburne, Angelica Hudson, Ian McShane and franchise newcomer Halle Berry.
