Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Opens To $146.5 Million Internationally

A staggered and spread out release schedule saw Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom open across 43 international markets last week. According to estimates by Deadline, the movie is expected to gross $146.5 million from overseas territories in its opening weekend. That’s slightly off from the $154 million that Jurassic World amassed in 2015 even as that movie was released day and date across most major countries. By all accounts, this is still a strong start and puts Fallen Kingdom fifth on the list of 2018’s best international openers behind Avengers: Infinity War, Monster Hunt 2Deadpool 2 and Black Panther.

The movie’s top markets at this point are Korea ($26.2 million), United Kingdom ($18.9 million), France ($9.6 million), Germany ($9 million) and Taiwan ($8.1 million). The movie topped 14 of the 43 markets it was released in including Estonia, Lithuania, Serbia, Sweden and Ukraine in addition to the aforementioned ones. It opened to $20.2 million on Wednesday from 25 markets before adding another 23 areas to add $39.2 million to its total on Thursday and $26.2 million on Friday. That the movie has yet to open in China on June 15 and the United States on June 22 means it’s yet to earn plenty more from its run. China alone should offer it a substantial opening as it has recently grown to become a major contributor to the revenues of major Hollywood blockbusters.

The movie is obtaining meddling reviews at this stage, judging by Rotten Tomatoes. It sits with a 62% Tomatometer which, while Certified Fresh, is not the score fans would be hoping for. At IMDb, it averages a score of 6.9 out of 10 from users, signifying moderate to good reviews. Fans are probably underwhelmed with the generic turn the franchise has taken even though it’s too early to judge the film seeing as it just opened. We’ll provide our own assessment if and when we get a chance to see the film. Meanwhile, let us know if you saw the movie and whether or not you liked it in the comments below.
