Matt Reeves’ The Batman Will Be Its Own Universe

DC FanDome is in progress and Walter Hamada dropped multiple tidbits of info about how Warner Bros. plans to weave the Multiverse into its storylines and go all in on the concept. To that end, Hamada confirmed what fans had already theorized: Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader will be set in its own universe. Hamada also confirmed that we’ll be seeing a Year Two version of the character.

Because DC is going all in with the Multiverse, Hamada explains that it lets filmmakers tell the story that suits their needs. In the case of The Batman, that means letting Reeves expand upon his version of Gotham City with an HBO Max show without being tied to continuity issues or fearing affecting other movies under production. And yet, thanks to how the Multiverse works, the movies can still share common canon not just with themselves, but with the TV Shows.

The Batman is currently set for a October 1, 2021 release date after being delayed from its original June 25, 2021 release. It features an ensemble cast including Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro and Andy Serkis.
