Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 to start filming in June

As the focus shifts to Marvel’s Black Panther and the soon-to-follow Avengers: Infinity War, the movie that will kick off the conclusion of the epic Three-Phase arc that Marvel launched with 2008’s Iron Man, news has been scant on Marvel’s Phase Four follow-ups. The silence is deafening to the extent that we don’t even have official titles of movies releasing beyond Avengers 4. Behind the scenes though, Marvel has been quietly working upon its slate of movies beyond the Phase 3 capper and the movie that’s every bit expected to lead the future is the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming.

There are whispers from sources that filming on the next Spider-Man movie is set to start in June this year. Moreover, the movie could be returning to film in Atlanta, just like its predecessor and should most likely be set in High School, continuing Peter Parker’s journey after the cataclysmic events of the two Avengers movies. There will also be sequences shot in Berlin, Germany though the exact nature of the scenes remains uncertain. Filming will continue throughout summer and wrap sometime in September, well ahead of the movie’s planned Jul 2019 release date.

While the news does indeed come from a reputable source, none of this is officially confirmed as such so take that as you will. That said, it makes most sense for Marvel to stick to this shooting schedule if they’re to comfortably meet next year’s release date. Not much is known about the movie except that it will be filming under the working title Fall of George. While that could mean several things, our strongest guess at this point would be to interpret it as the fall of George Stacy, Gwen Stacy’s father although that would very much make it something similar to The Amazing Spider-Man. Perhaps the fall is more representative of a season than a verb; we’ll see in due time.

Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 is rumored to release in theaters on Jul 5, 2019. Jon Watts is set to return to direct the movie while Tom Holland will reprise his role as the web-slinger of New York City.
