Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker will get its final trailer on Monday. A teaser announcement along with online tabloids suggest the trailer is set to premiere with ESPN’s Monday Night Football game. This is similar to how theatrical trailers for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi have aired. It also makes sense from a business standpoint given that Disney owns both ESPN and Star Wars.
The brief 8-second teaser released above gives away just one shot from the trailer with Rey and Chewbacca ready to pilot the Millennium Falcon as Finn and Poe take their seats and look on. Rey smiling at Chewie is a hint at the bond the duo have forged over the course of two films. Apparently, there are a few other teasers / TV Spots floating around as well; I’ll link them here if I come across them.
Marketing for The Rise of Skywalker has been largely veiled in secrecy. Only recently have Disney & Lucasfilm begun opening up about the film by releasing previews and interviews with Empire Magazine. With tickets also set to go on sale after the second trailer, it’s expected that marketing will really kick into overdrive beginning Monday, with a two-month blitzkrieg to ensure that Star Wars becomes the dominant movie brand plastered everywhere in the lead-up to its release.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for release on December 20, 2019. It will be the final film in the Skywalker saga, making this the final theatrical trailer for the Skywalker series of films. Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac reprise their roles from Episode VII and Episode VIII alongside returning veterans such as Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Carrie Fischer as General Leia appearing via footage shot for The Force Awakens
