Facebook Game of Thrones Filter turns you into the Night King

In a bid to give its Camera Effects platform a boost by capitalizing upon the most trending topic of the past few weeks, Facebook has released filters for its Camera Platform that turns you into the Night King. The filter is a part of several already available filters for Facebook’s newly revamped camera platform that focuses on Augmented Reality with an eye to give Snapchat a run for its money.

For those not in the loop, Facebook had shifted its strategy to being a camera first company at this year’s Facebook F8 conference. There, it had also unveiled its intent to treat its camera as a platform to crowd-source AI filters that could be developed and submitted by anyone and be used by the general public after they underwent an approval process.

The filter in the meanwhile has been tried on by Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju who plays Tormund Giantsbane and also by Ramin Djawadi, the composer of the series. It gives you options to take an image or record a video following which you can either share it as a post with your friends or put it in a story, a design choice that is intended to give Facebook’s languishing story platform a boost. The social media giant has been known to take every opportunity at its disposal to put stories at the forefront but unlike its implementation in its acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp, it hasn’t seen that level of success yet.

The Night King filter comes close to the Season Finale premiere of Game of Thrones that airs in less than 24 hours now. The episode itself has had its fair share of trouble as plot details got leaked yesterday. You can try out the filter by swiping right on the Facebook Camera App and then swiping up or down to reveal the filter if it doesn’t show up; seeing its popularity, it should be the first or second filter on the list.
