Avengers: Endgame Tamil Version To Be Penned By Ghajini Director A. R. Murugadoss

Marvel has tapped acclaimed South Indian director A. R. Murugadoss to write dialogues for the Tamil Version of Avengers: Endgame. This bodes well for the studio who has realized the potential these movies have in the Indian market. Avengers: Infinity War made a solid $30 – $35 million (depending upon exchange rates) and Avengers: Endgame looks like it could make at least as much. Tapping a well known director is bound to ensure the movie maintains a local flair without losing sight of its script, which is what Murugadoss aims to bring to the table.

Having directed such local hits as Ghajini, Sarkar and Kaththi, Murugadoss expressed his excitement about being chosen for the task while acknowledging the scale and scope these movies carry.

I have always admired the story, spectacle and scale that Marvel brings to its movies, and Avengers: Endgame is going to be one such powerhouse of a film that has the whole country excited. As a writer and a film-maker and now a fan – thanks to my son Aaditya, I am thrilled to be a part of this phenomenon which brings together a galaxy of powerful characters like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and more.

I have tried to bring in an interesting local flavour to the movie without compromising on the original thought and certainly hope that fans will look forward to watching the Tamil version of the film.

A. R. Murugadoss on writing the dialogues for the Tamil dub of Avengers: Endgame

“South India has emerged as one of the crucial markets for Marvel and we have always had a special focus on super-serving the Marvel fans in the south as well”, explained Marvel Studios’ India head Bikram Duggal. “With the celebrated writer AR Murugadoss, we are bringing alive the magnificence and grandeur of the film in a language that the audiences prefer. We hope all the fans will appreciate this effort and enjoy this epic spectacle in Tamil as well”, he added.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown tremendously in popularity across the globe and India is no exception. Its huge gross notwithstanding, Avengers: Infinity War also opened to a historic $20 million in the region, giving some serious competition to Indian cinema. To that end, major movies are staying clear of the release of Avengers: Endgame, possibly even altering release dates to avoid clashing with the juggernaut. Let’s hope Marvel taps someone equally reknowned for the movie’s Hindi version since its Hindi-language dubs have often been the butt of several jokes, as was the case with Captain America: Civil War back in 2016.

Avengers: Endgame releases in theaters in India on April 26, 2019.
