Avengers: Endgame Theory – Carol Danvers Will Adopt Captain Marvel Name To Honor Captain America

Despite the official Avengers: Endgame trailer containing a well of secrets and easter eggs of its own, some interesting new theories keep popping out here and there. The trailer has already amassed a lot of views and is probably the No. 1 Trending item across pop-culture right now. Among the many theories doing the rounds, one draws on the hinted sacrifices of the original Avengers to restore balance to the universe, upon which the theory builds.

One of these fan theories suggests a rather emotional reason behind Carol Danvers adopting the moniker of Captain Marvel. If you’ve seen Captain Marvel, you’ll realize that Carol is never really referred to by that name in the movie. Per the theory, Carol Danvers will adopt the alter-ego name Captain Marvel by the end of Avengers: Endgame to honor their fallen soldier Captain America. It’ll be her way of paying tribute to both her heroes, the Kree Mar-Vell and the human Steve Rogers.

As with all fan theories, there’s no way to ascertain whether or not it will come true until the movie’s out. We’ve barely seen a scene with Captain Marvel in Endgame (two if we count that mid-credits scene) although in hindsight, it does feel like Thor’s pairing with Captain Marvel could be a nice bit of misdirection to actually throw viewers off her real inspiration, Captain America. And as wild as fan theories have been out there, this one does jibe in well with what we know so far, and also with Danvers yet to adopt the Captain Marvel name, this would be a cool way to pass the torch.

So what do you make of this theory? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Avengers: Endgame releases in theaters on April 26, 2019. Check out yet another theory as well as our Road to Avengers Endgame series in the interim.
