Captain Marvel Run Time Revealed; Tickets To Go On Sale Next Week?

Are tickets for Captain Marvel going on sale next week? At least that’s what it’s looking like for now. ESPN has announced that a new exclusive look for the movie will be arriving at its upcoming January 7 football game and while the official video hasn’t been uploaded itself, eagle-eyed Twitter accounts were quick to capture it.

Update: Marvel has confirmed a new look at Captain Marvel is coming tomorrow. The original story continues below.

If history is any indication, this spot will most likely see tickets for Captain Marvel going on sale. This lines up with a similar move Marvel Studios pulled last year when tickets for Black Panther went on sale after the airing of a similar TV Spot on ESPN. This could have to do with Marvel having exhausted its quota of two trailers for the movie.

Almost immediately after this news, several movie theater chains have updated their Captain Marvel listings to reflect the movie’s run time, a move that generally happens as movies near their release. We checked listings at AMC and New Vision cinema chains and they both seem to concur that Captain Marvel will have a running time of anywhere between 2 hours 8 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes with the movie being rated PG-13.

All of this, I’d take as a sureshot sign that tickets are soon to go on sale. It would still be earlier than Black Panther; that movie’s ticket sales opened about a month and a half ahead of its release. It still lines up with Marvel’s strategy for the movie, which has been to give it a lot more publicity and marketing push than say, something like Avengers: Engame which the general public is already hyped up for. A third trailer is highly unlikely to be released and this exclusive spot should be followed by a constant stream of spots over the next two months.

What do you make of this? Will you be reserving or booking your ticket once Captain Marvel tickets go on sale? Let us know in the comments below.

Captain Marvel is slated to arrive in theaters on March 8, 2019.
