Avengers: Endgame Passes Titanic, Grosses $2 Billion In At The Box Office In 10 Days

It’s done. Avengers: Endgame has surpassed the lifetime gross of Avengers: Infinity War in just two weekends. Endgame today passed $2 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the second highest grossing movie of all time, only behind James Cameron’s Avatar ($2.8 billion). In the process, it also ended up passing Titanic by $1 million; its lifetime total sitting at $2.188 billion with the race now to beat Avatar at the global box office.

Avengers: Endgame took home an unprecedented $145 million in its second weekend at the box office. For comparison, that’s nearly what Captain Marvel made in its opening weekend and is a number most franchises would kill to open to. Internationally, the movie added $282 million, aided by its strong performance in China. China in fact, has been something of a miracle market for the MCU with Endgame earning $511 million from China alone, which rivals its earnings in the domestic market.

Beating Titanic at the box-office is now a foregone conclusion; the race is now to snatch the highest grossing movie title from James Cameron who had held the record for nearly two decades now. At this rate, I’d place my bets on Endgame cruising along to eventually outgross Avatar in the fifth or sixth week; remember, the upcoming summer season is insanely crowded with Detective Pikachu, John Wick 3: Parabellum, Aladdin and Godzilla: King of the Monsters releasing in the space of nearly a week in May alone. That said, there’s no way Endgame won’t be playing throughout the summer season, which makes it the only movie in a long time that has a shot at taking away the mantle of the highest grossing movie from Avatar.

Despite the insane hype built up around the film, the box-office of Endgame has been nothing short of a dream run. It broke the wildest records imaginable when it opened to $60 million Thursday preview shows that led to a stupendous $350 million domestic and $1 billion worldwide in the opening weekend alone. It soon outgrossed all movies in the MCU including The Avengers. It’s enjoyed a great run in some other markets as well such as India, where it surpassed the lifetime totals of Infinity War in a week and China, where it grossed the $500 million mark within no time to become the highest grossing movie in that country, beating even local productions.

Avengers: Endgame is running in theaters now. The Russo Brothers have officially lifted the spoiler-ban so make sure to catch the movie if you haven’t. And while you’re at it, consider reading our movie review and let us know what you think about Endgame crossing Avatar in the comments below.
