It’s semi-official. The first Spider-Man: Far From Home reviews are set to arrive on June 27. On the other hand, the first Far From Home reactions are slated to drop a week earlier, on July 19. The news was broken by Erik Davis, Managing Editor of Fandango, one of the biggest ticketing websites in the United States, so we have reason to believe it’s true. Unless of course, Marvel deems it otherwise for some reason.
Generally, reactions and reviews dropping this early is a sign of the studio having confidence in the movie. While Spider-Man: Far From Home is a Sony movie technically, it’s produced and creatively overseen by the team at Marvel, making it as much of an MCU movie as anything else. And with the stellar track record the MCU has had thus far, as well as Far From Home riding the wave of the stupendous box-office success of Avengers: Endgame, fans are going to be desperate to catch the next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As it is, Homecoming was well received so the same team returning back should ignite fireworks.
As if to accompany the announcement, a new Spider-Man: Far From Home IMAX poster was released. The posters for Sony’s Spider-Man movies have generally been bland but the blandness has been amped up in the last two Sony-MCU movies. In this case, the poster is nothing special, featuring an assortment of faces on whose name the movie will be sold i.e. Spider-Man, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhall) while also featuring the stealth suit prominently. Ignoring the fact that it’s heavily male-dominated, the poster lacks the creative spark that is expected from a movie about Peter Parker.
Spider-Man: Far From Home releases in theaters on July 4, except in China where it will arrive a few days earlier. We’ll be sure to bring you the first reactions from the movie without spoiling the major bits, right here on Appocalypse. Check out our detailed trailer breakdown in the meanwhile.
