Before the Spider-Man: No Way Home leaks gave way to rumors swirling around a Multiverse crossover, there was one movie that had already attempted it. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse released in 2018 had its central storyline revolve around the Multiverse concept, a full three years before 2021. Now, the movie’s director Christopher Miller has gone on to drop a huge hint, yet again appearing to confirm the presence of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in No Way Home.
About a year back, Miller had revealed in a tweet their plans of doing an ambitious crossover involving all Spider-Man actors. That includes Tom Holland alongside Maguire and Garfield. At the time, Sony dismissed the idea, stating it was too soon. Today, almost a year later, Miller retweeted his original tweet with a comment acknowledging that he no longer felt it was too soon.
Aware of the frenzy his comment would kick off, he followed it up hours later by attempting to brush it as just one man’s opinion.
Now obviously this could mean one of two things. Either Miller is playing along with the hype generated by fans around the inclusion of former Spider-Man actors, or Miller genuinely has inside info and knows that the crossover is happening; if anything, the fact that Sony wanted to do it in a live-action movie could have been the very reason why they rejected it in the animated Spider-Verse film. I’d like to believe that regardless of whether Miller knows or not, by this point it should be considered as all but confirmed that Maguire and Garfield will return for No Way Home.
All of this comes over the leaked set photos that have already captured both actors in a soundstage in their respective Spidey outfits. The images keep getting taken down which should serve as further proof of the fact that both actors are in the third Spider-Man movie. For now, if you’re tired of the leaks, you can check out the official trailer itself as released by Sony.
Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on December 17, 2021.
