Avengers: Endgame Co-Director Joe Russo To Visit India In April, Ahead Of Movie’s Release

Rejoice, Indian fans. Joe Russo, one of the directors of Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Avengers: Endgame will be visiting India ahead of the movie’s April 26 release. While additional details are still under wraps, it’s being reported that Joe Russo will be in Mumbai, India on April 1 and 2 to promote the movie. This will also kick off the movie’s worldwide press tour, with brother Anthony Russo presumably visiting a different location.

In a statement to Indian media publications, Joe Russo said,

I am absolutely thrilled with the passionate response Avengers: Infinity War received in India, and cannot wait for you to see Avengers: Endgame. Thank you for embracing these movies. I am excited to be coming to India and eager to meet our Indian fans very soon.

It appears different media houses have been emailed this statement, since it cannot be found on any of the Russo Brothers’ official channel. It’s certainly exciting news though, to have the director of another major juggernaut superhero movie franchise arrive in India after Christopher Nolan’s visit last year. Again, we do not know if the event gracing their presence will be accessible to general fans but we hope fans will get a chance to interact with Joe on Avengers: Endgame and their other current and upcoming projects (Deadly Class perhaps).

Together with Anthony Russo, the brothers started off directing episodes of Community before Kevin Feige took notice of their talents in handling a multitude of characters and offered them Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Having passed the test and giving Marvel Studios one of its strongest sequels yet, the brothers then landed the more ambitious Captain America: Civil War, an ensemble movie testing the waters for their eventualy direction of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. While they’ve done plenty of other work on the side, and are even set to direct a Civil War centric movie with Tom Holland in the lead, I imagine most of their tour will be geared around Avengers: Endgame.

Marvel Cinematic Universe movies have acquired an immense fan-following in India. Last year, Avengers: Infinity War surpassed $15 million in India (100 crores in local currency) on its opening weekend, which is considered to be an unheard of feat a few years back. It went on to gross around $43 million, an astounding 300 crores, the amount traditionally grossed by local blockbusters. And if reactions to the Captain Marvel mid-credits scene are anything to go by, general anticipation for Avengers: Endgame across India is through the roof. So much that local releases will be steering clear of the potential box-office juggernaut.

Avengers: Endgame releases in theaters worldwide on April 26, 2019. Directed by the Russo Brothers, the movie features an ensemble cast and picks up after the events of Avengers: Infinity War as the leftover Avengers work to figure out a way to reverse the effects of Thanos’ snap.
