Paramount’s Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 have release dates. The movies were previously announced for Summer of 2021 and 2022 respectively but Variety reports that the duo now have some concrete dates in place, until things change. Mission: Impossible 7 will release on July 23, 2021 while Mission: Impossible 8 should arrive on August 5, 2022. As reported previously, both movies will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie.
The summer time frame makes sense for the Tom Cruise starrer franchise. Mission: Impossible movies have played around with release dates, but found big success in their summer timeslot with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible – Fallout, both helmed by Christopher McQuarrie. In the process, McQuarrie also became the only director to have handled more than one movie in the franchise and with the upcoming two movies in his kitty, the franchise will truly have his stamp if at all these turn out to be the final Mission: Impossible movies.
Filming should begin sometime towards the end of 2019. Both movies are expected to be shot back to back, making it highly likely they’ll tie closely together. Also, the August release of Mission: Impossible 8 could have to do with Marvel-Disney blocking a date in July and even Tom Cruise would be wise enough not to get in their way, no matter how big his own franchise has become.
