Spider-Man: Far From Home is breaking records worldwide and India is no exception. The Marvel Cinematic Universe film earned a record ₹46.66 crores in its 4-day extended opening weekend, becoming the No. 1 movie at the Indian box office, beating other local releases like Kabir Singh and Article 15 who are in their third and second weekends respectively. The movie got an early July 4 release in the country where it started off with ₹10.05 crores ($1.46 million). It followed up its run with a ₹8.79 crore Friday ($1.28 million), ₹12.41 crore Saturday ($1.8 million) and ₹15.41 crore Sunday ($2.24 million) for a net total of ₹46.66 crores ($6.79 million).
Spider-Man is one of the most beloved and well known superhero properties in India. That, coupled with Far From Home serving as a follow-up to the immensely successful Avengers: Endgame means people are braving all odds to flock to theaters. It’s possible the movie could enter the ₹100 crore club, a coveted milestone in the country thanks to the increasing popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and better awareness about the MCU thanks to online forums and fan communities. Next week should prove to be some tough competition once Super 30 starring Hrithik Roshan hits theaters, snatching away a lot of screens.
