Tenet Teaser Trailer Released Online, Christopher Nolan’s Cryptic Movie Gives Nothing Away

The first Tenet trailer has been released online. Christopher Nolan’s event film has everyone’s attention right from its announcement at the year’s beginning. With the trailer, we can now finally see the first glimpses of what the maestro has been up to and spoiler: he does not disappoint. The trailer is mind-blowing, gobsmacking and every bit expected and unexpected in the best of ways. Check it out and read on for comments.

Afterlife? World War 3? Something worse than a nuclear holocaust? Time reversal? These are some of the themes posed and teased in the highly cryptic teaser. John David Washington’s unnamed character is on a mission here, one that will apparently prevent World War III from happening. He is guided on the mission by people like Elizabeth Debicki and Martin Donovan, with Branagh’s antagonist appearing to be the mastermind here.

The plot stays mysterious but one of the most promising elements seems to be the ability to manipulate time in some way. Whether it’s a conscious manipulation or time running amok on its own isn’t clear. But certainly, there’s some time bending at play here. The sequences we saw from Estonia where cars were running backwards were then speculated to have been a trick used to film cars at high speed, but it looks like that’s not the case. It certainly looks like a solid case of time manipulation.

Between the high-profile concepts and the varying locations at display, including Italy, Estonia and India (the building sequences were shot on Grant Road, Mumbai), the trailer looks exciting and promising without letting on an ounce of plot development. It’s going to be immensely fun pouring at it through the next few days, breaking it down frame by frame.
