Marvel Studios has finally lived up to the wait and released the Avengers 4 trailer on its official YouTube channel. The trailer sees our titular 2012 Avengers lineup return with some supporting faces as they swear to battle Thanos and undo the damage he did to the universe by snapping his Infinity Gauntlet in this year’s Avengers: Infinity War. Also revealed is the title of the movie which we won’t spoil until you’ve watched the trailer at least once, which I’ve embedded below for your viewing pleasure.
The trailer is high on emotions and chills and low on reveals, which is perfect as it should be. We see Tony Stark floating adrift in space inside Thanos’ ship, sending messages to Pepper. We see Cap and Black Widow discussing the success of Thanos and teaming up to carry out their final plan. And the trailer aptly ends with Scott Lang on their door offering his services, desperately hoping Captain America remembers having met them.
And at the end of it all, it reveals to what fans have long speculated: the title. Avengers 4 is titled Avengers: Endgame. That’s right, Doctor Strange’s ominous line about this being the Endgame now is the basis of the movie’s title and boy is it revealed in spectacular fashion. More interestingly, the trailer ends to reveal a release date of April, confirming that Marvel has pulled up its release date for Endgame just as it did for Infinity War.
The trailer comes after weeks of fervent and increasingly impatient anticipation. Since the past few days, every day is being predicted or touted as being a supposed date for the trailer’s launch, with Marvel and President Kevin Feige staying mostly silent on the matter. The trailer was speculated to arrive on November 29, the one-year anniversary of the Infinity War teaser, then on Monday or Wednesday with the second Captain Marvel trailer, before it got postponed to today’s Friday release. Regardless of all the varied predictions, the trailer is finally here and we can all download and enjoy it as many times as we want.
There’s definitely a lot going on here that would deserve its own separate post. Don’t be surprised if the trailer is the subject of intense scrutiny and internet examination over the next few days, with fans wanting to pour over every single frame extracting clues into how this 11-year 22-film saga comes to a close.
Avengers: Endgame is slated for release on April, 2019.
